I’m in the process of learning Adobe Illustrator. Having learned Photoshop rather well by going through hundreds of tutorials at Good-Tutorials (although I still haven’t harvested it’s full potential), I’ve been looking for Illustrator tutorial sit

es. Good-Tutorials is one of them, but there have got to be more.

I found most of these on my own, but a few were shown to me on #illustrator in Quakenet. So far, this is the list I’ve come up with:

3. The explosion of the Ariane 5 (1996)
In 1996, Europe’s newest and unmanned satellite-launching rocket, the Ariane 5, was intentionally blown up just seconds after taking off on its maiden flight from Kourou, French Guiana. The European Space Agency estimated that total development of Ariane 5 cost more than $8bn (£4bn). On board Ariane 5 was a $500m (£240m) set of four scientific satellites created to study how the Earth’s magnetic field interacts with Solar Winds.

According to a piece in the New York Times Magazine, the self-destruction was triggered by software trying to stuff “a 64-bit number into a 16-bit space”.

“This shutdown occurred 36.7 seconds after launch, when the guidance system’s own computer tried to convert one piece of data — the sideways velocity of the rocket — from a 64-bit format to a 16-bit format. The number was too big, and an overflow error resulted. When the guidance system shut down, it passed control to an identical, redundant unit, which was there to provide backup in case of just such a failure. But the second unit had failed in the identical manner a few milliseconds before. And why not? It was running the same software,” the article stated.

They can’t sue in the state court of the person who is paying for Internet access (and therefore, the IP address), because at this point they aren’t even sure in what state that IP address might be. Blog filler.

I don’t know what you guys think but I find aggression against Turkey unjustified for any crime they committed against humanity (whether genocide or not). The genocide is part of our history and shall never be forgotten. The attempts of the Turkish government to dispel any Armenian pride or sense of Armenian heritage within us, especially among the Armenians in Turkey, are truly tragic as well.
But when we proudly shout that we were “the first Christian nation,” how can we still hold hatred in our hearts? How different are you from your enemy if you cannot learn to give up hatred? I cringe every time I hear that fellow Armenians have performed acts of aggression against Turks (e.g. killing Turkish diplomats). I am not advocating that we forget our past, or undermine the Genocide of 1915, but that we not seek revenge or retaliation toward Turks. Let them be “barbarous by nature,”but as a race which is prizes their heritage so highly, shouldn’t we remember our Christian roots? Wasn’t Christianity the soul of our nation when oh so many nations fought to convert us to Islam or other religions? We have all been told the story of “Katch Vartan” who protected our faith through a war we lost (though ideally, we should not have fought the war and ignored Persian threats of war or conversion….that’s not the point really). So what values do we uphold? Christian values of love and peace, or those which fuel the unbearably cruel actions of our enemies such like revenge (AKA retributive justice). Forgiving is a sacrificial act — it is not naive — but that is what is asked of a Christian nation. Will vengeful actions really bring about the peace we seek? Will they really bring honor to our massacred ancestors? If that is so, then we are no different than the Turks: our neighbors, our so-called enemies.
Armenian pride shouldn’t be characterized through hatred toward a group of people, but rather the Christian values which have defined us in years past as Armenians. To retaliate against Turks is the single most un-Armenian action you can ask for.

Goodbye, school!

Goodbye, school!

America at War

America at War: Just because he’s British doesn’t mean he’s wrong.
