i love canon…really, i do! i’ve been a fan considering how it has been a familiar brand to me for the longest time: andre agassi ads, my aunt’s ancient sure shot which is still a frequent sight at family gatherings yet otherwise obsolete, the growing number of friends who turn out to be canon camera users, flickr domination — all have converged into an affinity to canon. it makes me regret getting Penny, my pentax k100d. i would have rather purchased a rebel xt.
but that’s besides the point.
i have arrived at the sad realization that canon has screwed me over. they have victimized by offering me a free printer with the purchase of my dell laptop (i think it came with the laptop, might have been
something else…beyond the point anyways). my brand new pixma ip600 printed quickly and with good enough quality. it wasn’t long after its first print when I needed to replace the ink cartridges, despite printing in grayscale and with low quality options…for some reason, the color cartridge was wiped out as quickly as the black.
since i couldn’t drive at the time (and i still can’t without a car) my dad made a trip to frys or wherever to buy me some ink. at first, i was suprised when he arrived with a new printer, the exact same one which i needed ink for. it turns out that the ink is just as expensive as the printer (50$). as time passed, i found more pixma ip600s bundled with products but didn’t really think of it negatively until a few days ago when i made a trip to frys. the price of ink for my printer hadn’t changed, and neither had the price of my printer. it wasn’t until i say both price tags right next to each other when i realized how much of a tool i was. canon wanted me to use their printer which leeches ink at a frikin 100 gpp (gallons per print) and sells the ink at ridiculous prices. i thought it was a good deal to use a free printer, and i would probably get caught buying it since it’s so cheap…but no worries now, i know what i’m dealing with.
